Can a high school senior take out a student loan?

My laptop is going to die... I need a new one for college. I'd like to get it now-ish so I can have time to get used to it.

Can I do that?

No. You must be enrolled in college to qualify for student loans. Student loans (and all financial aid) is sent to the school first. It is used to pay your tuition and fees and then anything left over is sent to you. Do not expect to be able to buy a new laptop with your college financial aid until your first semester of college has already started.
