Italian and Latin men are famously overtly aggressive in pursuing women and particularly young women. It is culturally infused into their "machismo" culture. Their women hav grown accustomed to their men trying their best to flatter and compliment. They like it and are often attracted to the man who can "play the violin" best among them.

If they thought you were a whore there would be no doubt in your mind the tone had turned vulgar and ugly. Oddly enough with all this overt courting their divorce rate is among the lowest at 6% while the more subtle US culture is at 45.8%. You are far more likely to remain married as an Italian.

Try watching a pretty young Italian girl for awhile and see how she handles herself. American women are known for being easy so that is also a factor.
