I would suggest looking into therapy. You needn't expect miracles, but it can help.
In the meantime, you should ask yourself what it is about SH that makes you feel better, or helps you cope (and with what). Is it the pain? Is it the sight of blood? Is it the scarring? Or just a combination of these sorts of things?
If it is the pain you desire, try (and yes, this is incredibly cliche) snapping a rubber band to your wrist, holding ice onto it, or any other of a list of things that will give you pain without the risk of seriously hurting yourself.
If it is the blood, draw on your arms with red marker, lipstick, or buy a pack of blood capsules/tubes of fake vampire, theater blood. Pour it all over yourself if you must. Granted, this might come with tedious cleanup, but it's much healthier than actually cutting yourself. The same goes for scarring.
Write on your arms, or wherever you cut- reassuring messages or lyrics, things that make you happy, a smiley face, something to signify a promise to yourself that you are trying to get better and will not hurt yourself (and even if you do, don't get too discouraged). Scream into a pillow. Listen to loud music. Tear up paper. Draw pictures of cutting instead of doing it.
Just some suggestions. It's never easy, I know. But if you really, really want to stop, you'll do what you need to do in order to. Best wishes. x

Instead of cutting urself. Get elastic bands. And put them on your arms. Just like bracelets. And when u are craving to cut urself jut hit urself:D. Same effects but not bad 4 u as cutting. It'll hurt and maybe it'll leave a mark. (Btw. Make sure the elastic bands are bigger that ur wrist to blood can pass evenly)
Source(s): I do this all the time. Also when I'm tempted to eat. But that's another story :) - manicLv 610 years ago
You need to see someone or join a support group. I suffer from B.P.D. it took me years to go long without cutting or burning. Not until I got on the right medication and joined a DBT therapy group was I able to go long periods of time without hurting myself. Even now I have an intricate network of support and numbers to call if I feel the urge. You need to call for help now. Self harm is no joke dude. One time I got into a fight with my husband and got drunk and cut a 2 inch deep and 13 inch wide gash into my leg without even realizing how bad it was. I needed 24 stitches to close that sucker up. get help NOW!
