My dog chews herself?
My 5 year old basset hound chews at her feet, anus, and other areas of her body constantly. It sounds discussing when she does it and it drives me up the wall! What can I do to make her stop, I had it with her! She drew the last straw by liking up on my bed near my pillows leaving a huge wet sit where she did it at

this is fairly common in a dog that has an infection or parasite, veterinary intervention is way to proceed.
the anus licking is due to irritation form the parasites etc and skin irritation as part of this though fleas etc may be involved. vet should eb able to offer treatment and advise to overcome and stop this cycle.

Did the vet give you any ideas as to what's causing it like allergies? That could be a big help in getting the itching down if you can limit exposure to whatever's causing the itching (including food allergies). If it's caused by fleas - even one flea - good monthly flea prevention would help. A bath once a week in head & shoulders can help soothe irritated skin but it won't cure it. But really, unless you know what's causing the itching so you can eliminate it or at least reduce exposure you're really limited 'cause she won't stop. Also, not all vets charge the same. You can always price around and see if there's somewhere more friendly to your wallet especially if you know what medication/treatment keeps the chewing down so you don't have to do any more tests.

Sounds like an allergy...what are you feeding her? Grain free foods work WONDERFUL for allergies. Taste Of The Wild is a good one. Most commercial dog foods contain many things that aren't good for dogs, and are actually harmful (corn, grains, even deseased animals etc) I would change the diet. You can google which foods are high quality and which foods are low quality...rule of thumb is anything you buy at a supermarket is very low quality. You can also rinse her with organic apple cider vinegar (Braggs is a good brand) that helps a lot with her being so itchy.

she has irritation on her skin and best if you try to make her stop because it only irritates her skin more. my 4 year old Chihuahua does that to and i cant stand it because she also leaves a circle where she was licking herself. my vet told me to make sure she takes shower maybe stays out of direct sun and the vet gave me some anti biotic for the possible parasites.
hope i helped:)

could be flea bite allergies. take to the vet to be sure what it is. my older dog i think has flea bite allergies because anytime she is around other dogs she chews her back and feet constantly. i put flea meds on her from the vet and the chewing lessened significantly.

first of all stop getting angry at your dog.
if your dog was liking your bed then she might of needed you to wake up. :l
second of all if you need to take her to the vet. she is obviously suffering from something. flea's or paracites.
dont risk not taking her
and again. lay of her, i be she was by your side when you needed it, so be a good friend and do the same!

This could definitely be an allergy...but it could also be an anxiety issue. Either way, it is time for a visit to your vet! Good luck!

She is allergic to something she walks on. Talk to your vet.
