it will make the mileage worse. really. science has proven this. the factory gate will make the air flow over the bed creating a vacuum behind the cab, if there is no gate or a net the air will flow right down on the bed causing resistance thus causing less economy and performance. but too little to notice. if it looks cool do it. if you really want to improve mileage it will not. good luck.

Mesh tailgate should help at highway speeds. Driving habits and good tune up are about all you can do otherwise to get the best mileage. Keep tires inflated to upper level written on the tire.
