how to format a cd for a back up disk?

i have windows 7 and started to do a back up on disk (new computer, takes 3 disks to back up) , i done the 1st disk ok but on the 2nd it says it needed formatting i cancelled the back up but now i formatted the 2nd disk it won't accept the first disk and it doesnt give me an option to format it

how do i format the 1st disk again, it just says needs a blank disk

i know win xp but not a clue about wins 7

    Back up to an external Hard drive. Its easier, and saves time/money.

    You don't need to format a CD, the reason why it said that it needed formatting is because the disk is corrupt. Use a pen drive like everyone else

    Start from scrath, Format three disks and away you go.
