Street legal engine for a Nissan 240sx?
Whats the strongest but street legal engine that you can have in California for a Nissan 240sx?
Also, How come you can own a Corvette with 500hp but not have an RB engine? Makes no sense.

Please keep away from US made V6 and V8 engines i see these in Japanese motors only to be sat by themselves at meets and booed out from both sides of the scene.
If you are going for that go for a Japanese V6 V8 engine like a VG VQ VH or a Toyota engine,or a SR CA engine.
It is made about the RB as those bad boys can see over a 1000bhp in its single and twinturbo form and being a tuner engine only simple mods release its true running power and apart from that the feel and sound of the RB is amazing.

The 500HP Corvette engine still passes smog and emissions.
The RB doesn't.
Also, the RB is actually not very reliable. Sure it can handle near 1000HP on stock internals, but I have heard of many problems with them.
There are two options.
Stock KA24. Keep it and modify it if you like torque.
SR20. More HP, but just as potent as the more reliable KA24.
You can still get lots of power with a KA24 if you get it built and add a turbo kit.

street legal in california for a 240sx..............I can honestly say that the only high hp motor you can throw in the 240sx and be ok with the CARB would prob be the ls3 erod. its crate engine that comes with motor evap ecu headers etc etc everything needed to swap in the 240...how every that kit is really expensive. no yea you can do rb/sr swaps but not smog gable and if you get caught police will take your car. they are trained and know what to look for now, before fast and furious era they were clueless now they have training on what to look for
good luck mate

No, you are wrong it makes fully sense.
"legal" is not defined by how much power you have, but how your engine deals with emissions, you can have a 1000 HPs street legal engine on your 240sx if you want.
You can use a car performance simulator to virtually take your 240sx and try different engines to see how it would perform, try at http://www.nxgtrsim.com/
