How long does it take for a dislocated kneecap to heal?
A week today I dislocated my kneecap from working out at home. I was dancing and I slipped on a rug causing my leg to twist out and bend to the point that my knee cap ended up on the left side of my leg. Went to the hospital and the kneecap was popped back into place when my leg was straightened out. I have yet to see an orthopedist but it's in a splint now and i was just wondering how long I'd be on crutches

I've dislocated mine twice to the point of it pointing left. You don't need a split or crutches. My doctor said that all I needed was a specialized knee wrap. They make special elasticized knee stabilizer/braces that you can buy them at any drug store from anywhere from $14.00 to $40.00. They are stretchy with a hole where your kneecap sticks out and have two steel braces sewn into the fabric on either side of the knee. Here's a link with a picture of one.

i dislocated mine last year i got home, and put my crutches away and walked around. don't take your brace off for the first week so your need strengthens. them more pain the better, why? because the pain comes as the neves move away as the knee heals. if you walk on it all the time it will heal miles faster as you are getting blood to the muscles!
