Why is medical/dental treatment so much cheaper outside of the US?
I was on vacation in Thailand a few years ago, and I developed a toothache. I went to a dentist and had a root canal and crown done, and the work was extremely good (it still holds up today). And it cost me a total of $200! That's basically 10% of what it would cost in America.
All KINDS of medical services are cheaper in Thailand, even though the quality is often HIGHER (there are fewer MRSA infections in the best Thai hospitals than in American hospitals, since the facilities are cleaner, and patients have their own suites). I no longer deal with American doctors at all.
Why are American doctors and dentists such ripoffs compared to other countries? Is it any wonder that "medical tourism" is growing VERY quickly?

In Thailand, the liability isn't as high as it would be in America. This tends to be true in most third world countries. Plus, money in Thailand and most third world countries considered a lot for them is a small or moderate sum for us. I do all of my medical procedures in Thailand. Not only is it worth the money but also the quality.

In Australia if you have medical insurance you can choose to add dental to it . Here we provide our own health insuranse so you can pick and choose to what suits you. Most people just pay at the dentist. I am on a pension and for pensioners and those on a health care card (low income earners) there are government dentists. You pay $20 a visit until all the things are done up to the cost of $80. Only thing is you can only do this every 2 years but if there is an emergency they will see you for $20. From primary school (prep to Grade 6) and the first 2 years of high school kids can go for free once a year (all treatment included).

It's called greed.
I had something medically alarming wrong with me and i was told only after i forced the Doctors office to release my medical records to me. The same Doctors office that had no problem sending me a bill for $500 every week.

In the UK it's free, the National Health Service doesn't even bill people from outside the European Union.

Hope that doesn't turn against you one day. It only takes one bad experience to end your life.
The cost of medicine is based on many factors, and it always costs less in poor nations (duh). If you're happy, fine. I'll stick with my doctor and dentist, and their American standards any day. I don't go to Thailand for perverted vacations. Just kidding...

The average conservative on this site will say, "then go move to Thailand, you commie trader [sic] I love my overpriced dental care and don't want socialist teeth!"

Poor quality of care, lower standards of living, lower median wages (thus less money to extract from patients), less government intervention.
