Find something or someone to hold on to - it's what I do. You need a purpose in order to have a 'good' life, without purpose or meaning we cannot exist, it is what makes us tick.

For one, I hang on to the people I love and hang on to the idea that I may be able to help someone get their life back on track, even if mine is a train-wreck. My mother, family and friends for example are those whom are important to me, they are the ones that keep me ticking and give me the will to live.

Although, I've failed to find a long-term or a more permanent motivator for myself, there is no single answer or guidance for this, you simply need to find what makes you tick - hold on to it and live 'for' them/it if you have to.

Apologies if my answer is a little vague, my understanding and ability to answer questions that involve motivation is a little dull.

Get World of Warcraft, join a Guild and develop an attractive, but awesome healing priestess.

Well when the necessities of life stop being handed to you, you might get motivated to get off your asss and make some money. At that time you ill find it, mundane to ask would you like fries with that?, and wish you had that degree to get a better job.
