Supporting economy by buying American cars?
Hey everyone, it's about time I replace my '98 Civic, and I really want to buy a car that's going to support our economy. However, I know absolutely nothing about cars, and I keep coming across conflicting information, so I need a few things cleared up.
Supposedly, some companies like Honda are made in America, so purchasing a Honda will help support job security, but will I be helping more by buying a "truly" American car?
If so, then does anyone know what American-owned makes there currently are? I tried looking them up, but I keep coming across ones that have gone under. I definitely don't want to purchase a GM or Chrysler because I don't support government bailouts, so do I have any other options?
Thanks for any help.

The U.S. brand that creates the most American jobs? The Ford Escape, which creates 13 assembly line jobs for every 100 cars sold, based on 2010 sales figures and company supplied information on how many workers actually man the assembly lines.
That is good, but doesn't top the Kentucky-built Toyota, which creates almost 20 U.S.-based manufacturing jobs for every 100 cars sold.

It's impossible to say for sure given the amount of components that go into a car and the raw materials that go into the car.
You could never buy a truly American car - you could buy an American brand.
Ford did not take the bailouts that GM and Chrysler did and they are an American brand. They have also managed to turn around their fortunes without the bail out.
Car companies these days have operations everywhere - Toyota, Honda, Subaru are all Asian brands that operate many plants in North America and the United States.

The idea that you should or can "support the economy" by buying stuff made locally rather than foreign stuff is just idiotic. Buy the car you like best (within your budget), with no concern for where it's made.

You should buy only the best car to support the economy.Weak companies are a burden of the nation.

initially, there are problems with defining what's American-made and what's distant places while it comprises the motor vehicle marketplace. you could not purely pass via the call of the motor vehicle employer. American agencies have production flowers exterior the U. S., and distant places agencies have flowers interior the U. S.. So once you're in touch relating to the staff who manufacture the vehicles, it is complicated to tell the place somebody motor vehicle grew to become into prepare. additionally, what relating to the staff who make the areas that pass into the vehicles? Many, many motor vehicle areas are made via distant places agencies, it is not suitable what the call of the motor vehicle employer is. you could not inevitably pass via the possession of the agencies, the two, using fact maximum of those agencies have publicly traded shares which would be bought via anybody interior the international. 2d of all, worldwide opposition is physically powerful for customers using fact it forces all agencies to offer greater suitable products. commerce barriers, which may well be steep in case you compelled human beings to no longer purchase specific vehicles, does not be stable for the buyer. to boot to decrease high quality, barriers improve expenses.
