Touring vs working in a city as a musician?

What are the advantages of each in areas such as money, publicity, availability of gigs, etc?

Well if you've played a show before, you'd know you won't get paid much unless you have good gigs lined up. I would just stay in the city until you become big enough to get good gigs. My band and I usually got $40 per gig (bad booking agency) but also because we're nobody.

At one GOOD venue we went to, we got $90. Big difference. So unless you can get that sort of money from every gig, stick with the city.

I have dont both. Tour are a grind.. thy will just wear you down until you are sick of living like a rat in a tiny space. When you have a long term gig it's more like a real life.. if you just slide between the two lifestyles you will never get bored.
