Akita with skin problems?

Our Akita has been having skin problems lately--don't know if it's an allergy or it's because he's a northern breed dog. I give him a bath, and two days later he smells like he needs another one. Any advice?

Update:

Kiyi is an 8-year-old male Akita who thinks he's a lapdog. He hates baths, but hates going to the vet (although he does like the ride).

Update 2:

Current diet is dry kibble with brewers' yeast tablets and fish oil. Home for him is the backyard, unless I let him in (brother's dog, but I've been caring for him for the last few years).

Have you tried a bath with a medicated shampoo?

There is some type of bacteria or allergy going on.

You didn't mention age or diet or environmental surroundings so it's pretty hard to come up with more info.

When all else fails, ask a vet.

I had an akita for almost 15 years. he had a skin disease called pemphigus. its like a doggie eczema. have the vet look at him. they can usually prescribe creams and ointments.
