Photographic challenge: how to deal with wet, GRAY, weather?

I now live in Portland, Oregon and it rains a lot here in the winter months. I'm looking for suggestions as to how to keep my photos interesting in an environment where the dominant color seems to be gray (and "dark"). I prefer to shoot in color and am wondering how to deal with the very "gray" weather. Also, because of the rain, I need to either get a weatherproof camera or do something to protect them. I use film and digital cameras and so far don't like the waterproof digital cameras much. Thanks to all with helpful answers!

Many photos actually look much better on cloudy days, because the light is diffuse without harsh contrast. For example, all my best shots of show cars were taken on heavily overcast, even rainy days,

Just try to point the camera so you get as little sky as possible in the photos.

Try getting a weatherproof camera,or using an umbrella..Covering your camera with a plastic bag of plastic wrap (except the lens, the screen and the buttons)..etc can also help, but not as good..

Taking raining photos, photos of water dropping in a puddle, or the moon, stars..etc at night. If the sun ever comes out, maybe eve trying that.

Waterproof cameras are designed for underwater shots. There are also some weatherproof cameras; here you have a couple http://www.whatdigitalcamera.com/specials/494137/w...

About grey days, I think in many ways are better than golden ones for photography. Soft moods and shadows can make beautiful pictures

If only overcast and not raining, a good flash unit used properly can help brighten things up. If it is raining, the flash will light up the raindrops as well, adding something you probably don't want to your photo.

Another vote for the Optech rain sleeves!

    Rain... optech rainsleeves for me.

Gray.. depends, as long as there is any texture at all to the grayness you can do almost anything. Only with solid greys it's best to give up on landscapes.
