Will any Camcorder Capture infrared light?
I want to purchase a camcorder for a trip to a said to be haunted hospital but I can't find any ir camcorders in my budget, so I was wondering if I could just buy a decent camcorder and attach an infrared light to it to capture video in complete darkness?

Nope, some have IR filters on the sensors to prevent some undesired loss in image quality in normal light.

first of all, a consumer camcorder is not a FLIR camera, the kind that can identify heat signatures and display them like doplar weather radar. no camera works in total darkness, period. the "night shot" type camcorders require that you illuminate the scene with an IR lighting fixture. the 2 LEDs on the camera work out to about 3 feet in front of the camera, anything further won't get enough of the IR light to reflect. To illuminate a room out to about 15 feet would require a 100 watt IR lamp the size of a breadbox, the kind the military had before night vision goggles were invented. A decent camcorder has an IR blocking filter to prevent getting false color when shooting normal subjects. Google on the internet and you can get instructions on how to open up a camcorder and remove the filter, but the chances of the camera ever working again are pretty slim. FYI spooks don't emit IR, the IR camera is used because a monochrome green picture just looks spooky. You can get the exact same effect with a regular camera by putting a blue colored cellophane over the tracking white balance sensor, or putting a green one over the lens like a filter. much cheaper and looks better, and you can use regular lights, not the IR kind.

No. Infrared concepts up the warmth signature of the encircling section and a nightvision scope makes use of faint gentle to be waiting to make certain products in the night. additionally there are scopes that emmit an infrared gentle that eluminates products as a manner to make certain them.
