upgrading my board and cpu, should i do a format and fresh windows install?

i know i probably should i guess is it necessary?

    Yes, it's probably necessary. It's rare to get Windows to keep running with a new motherboard.

    you should, but mark down important software that you have, otherwise it's going to be a pain to find it back.
