at 62 I finally got glasses-suddendly I need expensive glaucoma test-did that no problem now the clinic need?
test.did that no problem.now I need a field of visions test that i had before but now the specialist "is concerned" but can't get an answer from assistant other than dr has concern and will work with me for cost since I don't have insurance.added info when I went for glaucoma test charge was 583 dollars but I said I called for charge of glaucoma test it was $200 and dr waived fee since I di not have insurance. Does anyone sense a scam here? But you know how they work the fear factor.I looked online for causes of Peripheral visual problems and if I have that problem there is no cure anyway-a problem of aging eyess which will limit me.Any thoughts?

The doctor is waiving the fee, so you really need to stop griping.
Glaucoma is not a problem of aging eyes. My sister has been taking drops and treatment for glaucoma since she was 47 yrs old. I know people who are under the age of 60 with glaucoma problems. It runs in my family really big time.
Nobody really cares if you go blind except of you. Its your loss, and I think you have been ungrateful, and if somebody told me I had peripheral vision problems, I would be seriously trying to figure it out, since its not normal. Your peripheral vision loss can take away your drivers license, and can get worse.

At your age you should be getting an annual eye test. The prescription for your glasses will probably not change much but the test includes a pressure test for glaucoma and a look at the macula for macular degeneration. Either of these conditions can lead to blindness if not treated. Even if you have to apy out of your own pocket these tests are too important to pass up if you want to keep your vision.

You have reached the right place. When you suspect that doctor is working the fear factor - you should always search on the web for all possible information. The doctors don't always take the patient into confidence and share all information. After you carry out your own research on the web you will be better equipped to talk to the doctor and ask him more relevant questions. I do the same thing and it has helped me in communicating better with the doctors and in asking relevant questions.

If you do not trust this doctor request a copy of your records/test results and get a second opinion.
