Is reality television a positive or negative influence on society?
Or does it have little impact either way?

First, a reality show stars a non-celebrity or a volunteer who wants to participate in the program, and the core role is to see what their reactions in certain scenarios are, and how they face given situations.
In some ways, this gives the audience a connection with the show’s stars as they feel that they are “real and normal” people representing them. This is why the reality shows are hitting big time in the TV scenes because the audience empathizes with the show’s stars. Unfortunately, this is also why reality shows have a negative impact on the audience — because they tend to think, act, and feel, like the show’s stars, and in the process lose their own sense of critical thinking and “real” emotions towards certain situations.

Negative. Long ago I read a short story, fiction, in which a couple of prospectors returned to the little town where they had left their car, to discover that the town was transformed: everything was fixed and painted, the lawns were beautiful, all the cars were washed, etc. They went into the saloon and asked what happened. For some reason TV had stopped working so people had to find something constructive to do with their time. Neighbors got to know each other, hobby societies sprang up, local government was vastly improved due to citizen participation.

Negative. They tend to focus on people at their worst. I can't watch. I really miss family shows on television. Years ago there were programs on that the whole family enjoyed watching together. Not anymore. There is actually very little for young children. Even the cartoons are tainted. I want to see people at their best and/or have a good moral to the story. Something uplifting or that actually makes me laugh without curse words or sexual undertones. I'm sick of smut.

Negative. Television in general has prohibited people from going outside and surrounding themselves with reality. Television is awesome but nowadays, it has become the NORM to watch like 4 hours of television. It's bad.

Most show how life has degraded and is getting worse.
People fighting,shooting and being hurt.
Some show young people partying, then fighting.
The bad part is children watch, thinking it's ok.
Another thing many people seem to enjoy seeing others suffer.
They should go outside, all these shows do is make some scared.
I would rather see a comedy or even soft core loving.
Society can't handle that it seems. Its taboo.

I grew up watching well written tv shows that reflected the turbulent amazing times of the 60's through the 80's. Reality tv is cop out and contributes to the dearth of creativity in our society.

Negative. You need to find problems if you want to solve them. I don't want to be a douchebag that always does whatever one wants oblivious of how he's/she's ruining lives of others assuming everything is fine as long as he/she is the one that's happy.

Negative.........I really can not stand reality shows. They are cheap and scuzzy. What happened to the good funny sit com's. I know there are a few but not a lot to chose from.
