Yes it is bad, however most people i know are over reacting about it(e.g some won't even use youtube anymore) its not like the main part of the site is not working, besides most of the videos i find i use google to find, its not like i even use the profile parts of it much, however i think they should not force it, maybe they should put a option in the profile settings to switch back to the old layout or something.
As for Gmail, thanks for telling me, now i won't switch it :P
