Under what circumstances is a break up letter ok?

Curious as to what peoples' opinions are :)

    When the person you are breaking up with is in the service, spending a semester abroad, a member of the Peace Corp, or living in 1837.

    I prefer the look of abject horror and disbelief in their eyes when I tell them it's over!

    They can't misinterpret being told face to face.

    Only if it is an abusive relationship and you shouldn't have anything to do with the person. Otherwise it is heartless.
