because other players are not allowed to use hand to keep ball. they can be punished by Yellow or Red cards.

because they need one person that can catch and block the ball up high because it would look ridiculous having players try to save the ball top corner with there feet. Also to keep the game moving at a faster pace with the goalies Cross Field punts.

if there was no GK the football would be like basket ball.. scores would be 100-90 goals per game,.. and the americans would love it
