Bought a gift from Best Buy using a gift card to pay for part of it?
I may have to return the gift instead of giving it. I know I will get back what I actually paid but will I get back the amount of the gift card also?

I don't see why you wouldn't. I'm sure they will issue you a store credit; or gift card with what ever value was used on your gift card. Best Buy is usually really great about those things. Keep your receipt! Otherwise they won't know how you paid for it, and you are likely to get store credit for the entire transaction.
