What do you get for receiving a star and what do u have to do to get one.?

You don't 'get' anything, except that when another user stars your question, your question will show up to that user's contacts ... meaning that THEY may choose to answer it, too. A starred question might receive more answers because even users who did not see the question when it posted will be made aware of it.

There are no points awarded for stars.

Some users star EVERY question they answer, thinking that doing so will increase the likelihood of the asker choosing him or her for Best Answer (the 'flattery factor), while others star questions they LIKE or find interesting.

I often star a question if it's interesting but I don't have a good answer for it ... this lets the asker know that I thought the question was interesting even if I didn't answer, and allows me to easily find the question later to see how others have answered.

you need to ask an interesting question. i was going to star this one just for fun but it's not a very interesting question so i would be abusing the system
