How does alcohol affect blood pressure?
I have to have my blood pressure checked on the day after my office Christmas break up party. I would like to be able to drink at this party but also want a genuine BP reading the next day. Does a reasonable consumption of alcohol the day before affect the reading?
I am not concerned about it but my doctor is having a difficult time getting my medication right and I want an accurate reading so we know if the new medication is working. If it's not working then we need to look at some other option.

From the cite below, it looks like alcohol can, indeed, raise your blood pressure. Unfortunately, the cite doesn't address a few drinks the day before, but. rather, addresses habitual use. To be safe, limit yourself to one real drink, then switch to ginger ale or something far less alcoholic. Good luck!

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Yes. Alcohol makes your blood pressure go up quite a bit. I once took a home blood pressure test (my girlfriend's parents have one of those test kits), and my blood pressure was at a startlingly high level. I became concerned, and about a week later I went to the doc to get it checked out. Weirdly enough, by then it had subsided (and we were 100% certain we got it right initially).
So I would say yes, but I don't think its anything to be overly concerned about.

You should read "The Blood Pressure Solution" (also available in electronic format, watch the video presentation here: http://www.fixbloodpressure.com/ ) It's a very comprehensive step-by-step book that walks you through the natural remedies of high blood pressure. It provides you with a lot of information on what foods to eat, how you can acquire and prepare these foods, how you can change your lifestyle for the better, how to eliminate the toxins from your body, how to reduce stress, how you can check your blood pressure level the correct way etc.
The book is amazing in that it not only lowers your blood pressure without the help of medications; it also aids you in having a life that is healthy, happier, and less stressful. This book chanced my life.

Yes, and, as always, it depends on the person and the amount of abuse. It takes a lot of drinking to raise blood pressure, but more than like three or four drinks a day will definitely do it. I'm not the authority on blood sugar, but alcohol is RIDDLED with sugar, so I'm almost positive it can drastically increase your blood sugar. ASK YOU DOCTOR!!!
