Is my alternator going bad?

I have a 95' Geo Prizm and it has 3 belts. About a month ago my AC belt came loose so I cut it off. I also replaced my alternator belt because my old belt was in bad condition.

Recently my power steering went out and my battery light came on while driving. Is it possible that my alternator is locking up causing my power steering to fail?

I opened up the hood and everything seems to be working ok.

When you look at things under the hood they have no load on them. When you are driving it different. The things are working then.Go to a local auto store,I think advance auto will check your alt for free.

All belts need to be replaced at the same time because they stretch.A new belt will be smaller then an old and will be doing all the work.Replace 1 replace them all at the same time..

    Good luck

if you have a bad alternator then you would notice lack of juice in your battery, hard starts and in a fuel injection car the car will sputter and die while driving due to lack of power to the injectors. so the power steering wouldn't be caused by your alt. it is possible your alt is going bad tho so take it to your mechanic and he should test to see if your alt is putting off the correct voltage (shouldn't cost you anything at all for him/her to do this) if ur alt is fine he will check to see if ur battery is taking the charge as well. if all that is working correctly then you probably just have a bad dummy light and dont need to worry about the light

for the power steering check fluid levels if its low your power steering will not work correctly and if its been low too long it will ruin your unit. i will add a link below that will give you some ideas how to check your unit for problems
