What do you think of these AS level options?
I am currently in my final year at school (year 11) and am making my choices as to what to study at A/ AS level. In the future I would like to be a Lawyer and am striving to study at one of the top universities within the Russel group (ideally Oxford or Cambridge), and so would like to know if anyone deems the following subject choices to be appropriate and/or has any advice. The subjects are English Literature, History, Chemistry, Philosophy and Mathematics plus General Studies which is compulsory at the college at which I wish to attend. If it helps at all I am also predicted to receive A and A* grades at the end of my GCSE's, thanks in advance!:)

try to do as many traditional subjects as you can, english lit and history are great, so is chemistry and maths, philosophy would be okay to do as long as your other three are strong traditional A levels. Just avoid taking anything with the word 'studies' in it since they won't count it for anything.
I'm trying for law at oxford next year too and apparently the average is 6A*s for acceptance (which i got) and four really good A's at AS. Don't bother with extra activities unless they are relevant to the subject you want to study since they won't make much difference to your application.
If you want more opinions or info try looking on this website called 'the student room' there's a lot of threads about oxbridge and all the questions are about university and education so they answers will be from more people who know what they're talking about. good luck applying anyway :)

Good luck first of all. They are all great subjects, though if you were thinking of four then drop Philosophy. Even if you don't go for Oxbridge you have a great combination and will have a lot of options in the future. Remember aim for as many A*s as possible as Cambridge wants straight A*s. But Oxford is slightly strange, a girl in my school had 6 AS's, had a great ucas form and looks like the perfect oxford candidate and still got rejected. But good luck, and remember you don't just need the grades but the extra stuff too.

I'd advise changing Philosophy to a more standard and difficult subject. Apparently the top universities avoid accepting people with the subjects you more often find in colleges rather than sixth forms too, at least according to a recent news article investing corruption there and Philosophy is one of them; even Law which isn't easy is listed as one of them as usually only colleges do it. Something like Physics may work better, despite not being related, as it's a standard subject and a hard subject.

6 subjects? 0_o
I took 5 and it's starting to get to me. Don't take General studies and focus on the other 5. Better to get 4 or 5 A/B than struggle with the work load and get 6 C's

general studies wont count when you apply for uni, so dont bother putting much effort in.
5 is a lot of subjects. the leap between gcse to a level is huge. everyone i know really struggles - even oxbridge hopefulls. so i would consider not taking philosophy due to its slightly doce-y nature, particularly in comparison to the other choices. look at what some unis accept. i would definately reconsider taking 5...

hi, For drugs i might recommend doing A-ranges in: Maths, Chemistry, Biology and English Literature you additionally can go with an added A-point looking on how properly you are able to shelter the artwork and if your college enables. For Cambridge you will choose a*A*A/ AAA* maximum scientific colleges in uk choose AAA/AAA* Do you delight in Human biology? i'm afraid in case you do no longer delight in biology then drugs won't be suited to you. there is somewhat some biology in drugs. each and all the main suitable.

They sound amazing. a broad range of subjects and 6 subjects all together. Don't wear yourself out though! 6 is quite a challenge.
