rock and metal question.?

ok so is metal a different genre from rock?(personally i think it is because i think metal has alot of sub-genre like rock,but i just want to know what other people think.)

Update:

to duck.....well then youre saying that rock is basicly a sub genre of blues cus if it werent for blues rock wouldnt exist.

    Metal is a genre of rock music.

    think of it like a family tree with Rock as the roots. Metal is a branch off of Rock along with others variant forms of Rock.

    It's all rock at the end of the day some ppl will disagree that's why you see people ***** about why there isn't a metal section on yahoo awnsers

    rainy rain is 100% wrong. Heavy metal is a subgenre of rock, and heavy metal also has many subgenres under it. Heavy metal would not exist without rock music

    Rock and Metal are different genres. Rock has it's own sub genres, and metal has its own sub genres
