I have a leaky heater core?
I live in Tennessee and my Chevy Blazer (1994) seems like it has a leaky heater core. When turn on the heat, smoke comes comes out, and when I turn the heat off, there is no more smoke. Also, anti freeze leaks into the passenger side. I don't want to ruin my car... is it safe to drive it for a day more? Also, what would be the best plan of action? I'm a poor college student, so I can't afford much. Would it be worth it to replace it? I don't need heat... but still, how much would it cost? I also read something about tying off a hose from the radiator to stop the anti freeze leak. How much would that cost at a mechanic, and is it safe if I don't use heat?

You need to bypass it by taking the hoses off under the hood and hooking them together with a piece of pipe or tubing and some hose clamps. If you look under the hood, the two heater hoses should be very easy to spot. If it's a bad leak, the system won't pressure up and you're risking the engine.
It's by no means a simple repair. You have to get the entire dash apart and it's a real bear in that vehicle.

You need a HEATER CORE by-pass done. THis is an EASY DIY project. The only thing is, of course, you will NOT have any cabin heating until the core is replaced. Chances are that the DEXCOOL coolant has eaten a hole in your cooling system. If you had flushed it out and changed it on time, you MIGHT not have had this problem. If iI were you, Iwould have FORD YELLOW or Mercedes Yellow colant put in there instead. Your cooling system should last longer than the car you are fisxing!!! Any oil change center should be able to tell you HOW to get this job done, or they can do it for you. GOOD LUCK!!

I definitely have had amazing outcomes utilising powdered ginger as end-leak-you in trouble-free terms choose approximately one-a million/2 teaspoon to do the job. you should objective to locate a place to consume or some thing there, provide the element time to quiet down so which you will examine the coolant point. I definitely have taken the hose from one area of the heater middle and positioned it on the place the otheer hose starts in the direction of the heater middle, in simple terms bypassing the heater altogether. in the experience that your hoses at the instant are not the comparable diameter, you will discover an iron adapter pipe at any good ironmongery save. perfect of luck to you.

I would recommend fixing it sooner than later it's just gonna keep leaking. You can get the part for pretty cheap and a gallon on coolant some basic hand tools and fix it. If its dripping out like that stop leak won't work.

If you live near Knoxville, I could show you how to bypass the heater core, but you won't have heat or defroster and it does get cold in TN.
