Should news media be called propagandists, as they no longer?

report news, but opinions which support their political leanings? Back in the day, REAL newsmen/women were not shills for either side but actually were adversaries of government and held them to account by reporting on corruption...they were not an arm of government. All that has changed and now we don't have real news anymore...only opinions and talking heads for both sides...

I find it sad that the public is no longer being served and no longer has an advocate in reporters...whose purpose used to be...to make sure government served the people...not themselves.

Update:

People you don't need to point out that ONE news station actually supports conservatives and 20 support the left...I am pointing a finger at ALL OF THEM for doing the same thing which is wrong...but leftists do it 20 times worse than conservatives do you if you look at what is going on.

Sadly the very critical journalistic safeguard to a democracy is practically gone.

Even sadder are people who point at mainstream media -- having no idea their alternatives are pure bias of one sort or another, coming from particular viewpoints completely.

(Side note: news entertainment programs are NOT news, and people who point at them, are already not aware of what news is.)

It takes a lot of work now a days to figure out anything going on - lots of sources from every angle. Often you still can't get REAL journalistic insights. Most reporters no longer have good educated backgrounds in the areas they cover, so real insights are missing. Sensationalism gets more coverage these days. Then it takes a lot of intelligent thought to figure out all the logic tricks and read between everyone's lines to figure out what actually is valid data.

We have ourselves to blame. Media can't afford the number of quality journalists needed, because the people support the sensationalism and not the quality news. ...then again... I wish someone would put on a daily news hour that didn't cover the local fires (why is that always the top story?), and didn't cover what some average joe thinks about the election (the random people angle isn't news).. and told me in 1 hour what the issues are and what everyone's views are -- or just told me the news! There's a hole and hopefully someone will step up and invent a new concept -- media like it used to be 40 years ago.

I (surprisingly) agree with you. There is no such thing as unbiased "news." Editors and producers pick what they want to report and how it's done.

However, this is nothing new. Back in the day, news was even more pro-government. It took Woodward and Bernstein to really raise the idea that the government just might not be perfect.

Even venerable newsmen like Edward R. Murrow definitely carried the idea that the government is a positive force, here for the people.

    Yes they should.

I think it's obvious to most, by this point in time, that the news media is merely a hidden arm of government/Democrats. Maybe not so hidden anymore...

There is a difference though. Conservative news show hosts don't deny their political views.

Liberal news casters try to paint themselves as objective and fair, which is the furthest thing from the truth. This is the deception, the duplicity that is mainstream media; along with the suppression of news stories that hurt Democrats

Yes, that's exactly what the majority of them have become! It is now important and necessary for each and every voting citizen to use various news sources to help them form an opinion. To rely on just one is blatantly partisan and does not help our nation at all.

All I want from any news organization is the facts, I'll draw my on conclusions however, they don't seem capable of doing that...They have all sold out...

No, I think the most media, outside of Fox News & MSNBC, still do a good job trying to be impartial in their coverage of news. I think conservatives tend to be brainwashed to the claim that news is too liberally biased. This is done to make conservatives believe the conservative outlets are more objective and make conservatives more receptive to more indoctrination.

The only way to get fair news is to simply go 1984 and install cameras everywhere in the world. Channel 230852522354563 shows you what is going on in the home of a random person.

You are so right. The mainstream media is a leisure service of the democrat party. They think its up to them to make the news and not report it.

    For the most part, yes.

  • FOX News has "commentators" for over 81% of their programming.

"Commentators" = not bound to any code of ethics like real journalists are.
