you need a special burning software. I personally recommend a program from this website http://how-to-copy-a-dvd.com/

it's absolutely free and really easy to use.

Windows XP did NOT come with CD or DVD burning software unlike Windows 7 now does. Yes, you do need something like Nero. But there is free burner software available you can browse for & install. Try www.burnaware.com or www.cdburnerxp.se

These drives have a limited lifespan, and it sounds like yours may need to be replaced. Installing Nero software would not help, since it's a hardware issue. There's no need to install other software to burn CD's, you can use Windows Media Player. Just be sure to check whether your drive is IDE or Sata. Like Hugh above stated, they're not expensive to replace, approx. $20 & up.

I don't quite understand the question, but I can tell you how to burn a CD.

First step: Download the latest version of iTunes

Second step: Take your songs and transfer them into a new playlist on iTunes

Third step: Put a BLANK CD into your computer

Fourth step: On iTunes click- File> Burn playlist to disc.

    Fifth step: Select your settings

    Sixth step: Click "Burn"

Seventh step: Choose this answer as best answer!

    Hope this helps. :]

Source(s): I burn plenty of CDs

    ROM means "Read Only Memory".

What's the make and model of the PC and the burner?

Burners are cheap and easy to install.
