Quick question. I have heard that the carrot is nature's toothbrush. My son claims it's the apple. Which one?

Which one is it? or is it something else? This will help settle a family feud. Thanks in advance.

    Both can help the teeth.

While it is true that apple is the one usually hailed as "Nature's toothbrush", carrots also can help clean teeth

You're both right from what I remember. When I was in grade school, I remember a dentist coming in to talk to us about tooth health. He said that if we didn't have a toothbrush handy (I guess in event of being out of the house), he said that crunchy vegetables were good. I think it had something to do with the harder crunchy veggies sort of scrubbing the teeth instead of sticking to them. I remember him mentioning carrots, and by his description, I would think apples would do the trick too.

I never heard carrot before, but I have heard the apple. Although I wouldn't doubt that a carrot would help clean the teeth either!

    I'd distrust either.

While a high fiber snack might polish off your teeth, they're still both high enough in sugar to rot your teeth.

They might be nature's toothbrush, by they aren't nature's tooth paste.
