Statistics Problem (finding significance between two percentages)?
Ok, so here's my problem. I'm terrible at statistics, but I'm trying to work out a problem nonetheless.
I've got a percentage from a huge sample (in the millions) and I want to see if there's a statistical significance between it and a percentage from a much smaller population (only 84 people). How would I go about doing this? Please be as detailed as possible- like I said, this stuff goes right over my head and I want to be sure I don't miss a step.
Yeah, you're going to have to break it down a bit more than that...

1. Treat proportion in huge sample as a constant.
2. Find proportion and variance and then std dev in smaller sample
3. Use these to create 95% CI (proportion +/- 1.96*SD)
4. If constant is in CI then conclude that the sample and population are the same, if constant is not in CI then conclude that the sample and population are different.

From a 'much smaller population' can a 'huge sample' be drawn? Perhaps, you are trying to compare percentages in the two samples.
