It's a predominantly Catholic village in a predominantly Catholic area but there is no IRA activity there now. There's actually very little paramilitary activity anywhere in N. Ireland these days so you've nothing to worry about.

  • I hate people using the term Catholic/Protestant area, as if one or the other side 'owns' the area. We really need to get past this way of thinking...

Anyway I'd never heard of the place so I Googled it and on their Wiki page it says in the village 72.9% were from a Catholic background and 26.2% were from a Protestant background so it would be predominantly Catholic.

As I said before I'd never even heard of the place so I don't know if there is any paramilitary activity there, IRA or otherwise.

I don't like the Protestant or Catholic term used for that part of Ireland it should be nationalist/unionist loyalist/republican as it gives the world an impression its a religious thing yet most people fighting or with issues are non religious so it is a political thing, a good part of the outside world think its religious extremists like al Queda, but to answer your question its mainly people of a nationalist republican background

not a big fan of this whole "protestant" "catholic" area thing either i have to say. i think grennorlagh's got it right saying its a predominantly nationlalist area, obviously with a reasonable unionist minority. and no, theres no IRA or any other paramilitary activity there, paramilitary organisations in the north of ireland layed down their arms more than ten years ago.

Its catholic I'm sure you'll be fine... What does it matter anyway.. And by the looks of things the folk saying no parliamilitary are talking crap. Don't listen to them they are from down south they haven't a notion. There IS still terrorist organisations thriving in Northern Ireland, they are NOT disbanded, they STILL exsist. Sure they bombed derry a few months ago and they never stop bombing newry. Sure last week didn't they bomb a car. Disbanded my ***.
