Is this rude/ungrateful? It upset me.?

I always buy lottery tickets to give for my works secret santa. Not so secret as everyone knows they are off me. When the person I got them for this year thanked me the person I got them for last year commented not much good unless you win. I was upset by this am I being silly?

Update:

I am 40 years older than most of my workmates so don't have a clue when it comes to buying a gift. I don't expect them to win a jackpot but a small amount I think would come in handy at xmas for anyone. So I am sorry you don't approve Jan

I think you have every right to be upset. It does seem a bit rude and completely ungrateful. I'm willing to bet that if that person had won the Jackpot, they'd be feeling rather thankful that you thought to get them a ticket.

In any case, I'd brush it off. At least you try and if one of your co-workers win one day, you can say "Aren't you glad I buy lottery tickets for you all?"

The person saying this was telling the truth

a lottery ticket IS useless unless you win

Maybe buy a gift in future as that is what a Secret Santa is supposed to be

How would you feel if your family bought you useless lottery tickets for Christmas

    instead of a gift
