Why is there a Union jack on the freaking Saskatchewan Legislative building?

I would just like to know why is there a freaking union jack, British flag flying above this legislative building? why is this? and should it be done, what happened to Canadian patriotism? I have no issues with having this shared queen and heck there's even a statue of her right outside the building but cmon the Union jack is a little bit to much don't you think?

As mentioned previously, Canada was part of the British commonwealth for a long time and although an independent nation, they still have some political allegiance to England.

The Queen is on their paper money, coins and postage also.
