If you are trying to free up space on your hard drive by deleting files, it will likely take most of the files you have to do that. To free up space, you need to uninstall programs you no longer need or use; delete pictures and music files. Especially pictures. Graphics takes up a huge amount of space. If you use Adobe, anything Adobe, it is one of the largest space hogs you can have. If you use Adobe Reader for your .pdf files, uninstall it then download and install Foxit. It is about 1/10th the size of Adobe and much faster and easier to use. That would free up a lot of space. But you need to remember this: Deleting files does not mean they are gone from your computer. Instead, they are sent to free space, and they remain there until you wipe your hard drive and start over.

Then you need to get Auslogics Disk Defragger and defrag your hard drive. Auslogics is much faster than Windows' defragger and more effective. I've used it (and Foxit) for many years. Defragging can reallocate your free space and you may find you have more than you thought.

As above - if you delete files measured in Kb - they will not noticeably affect the space given back on a 20-100 Gb hard drive - these files are many thousands of times smaller than the overall space - if the files are Mb in size then you may notice a difference - music, video and large picture files take up the most space.

Have you looked at the size of the files that you're deleting? (I'm sorry if you have already.) Even if you delete many files, it won't make a different to the free space available if they're all small. Delete bigger files, like programs that you don't need and music that you don't like.
