what's going to happen to him? will i ever see him again?

a kid in my class was hit by a car about a week ago. my teacher is keeping us updated. she said he punctured his lungs,broke a few ribs(and probably a lot of other bones) and he had 3 surguries so far. the doctor says he is progressing because he can wiggle his left toes and he is expected to get the tube removed and start breathing on his own soon. my teacher says he will be home for a while and she will have to go to his house to teach him. how long until he can come back? and will he be any different?
