Athiests-what would you do if you realized you were wrong?

If one day you really were faced with judgment

Please Mind you, I don't mean this in a rude way at all, or in a " you are so wrong" or way to be offensive to you, I'm jsut genuinely curious how you guys would feel if one day you were struck with judgment, what do you imagine will be going through your head?

I'd be interested to see which of the24,000+ gods that man has created was the right one.

I'd probably **** myself laughing at the fundies if it turns out to be gnash or shiva or something.

It depends on the afterlife that I'm confronted with.

If I'm to be reincarnated, I'd be okay with it, since each life would be to learn more about this world and spirituality and this life would have been the one learning about what it's like being athiest. I wouldn't worry too much about attaining nirvana.

If I'm going to have my heart weight against a feather, I'd hope fervently that my heart that's being weighed is metephorical and not literal.

If it's the Jewish afterlife, my sanity would be blown since I'd be observing something that doesn't exist and I'd wonder where my mote of consciousness is and if it's actually existent since I'd not be supposed to be able to be self-aware.

If it's the Islamic afterlife, I'd say sorry for not being Muslim and settle in for a long toasty stay in purgatory until I'm admitted into heaven.

For the Christian afterlife, I'd hope the Christian god is understanding enough to listen to my view of things, and then I'd sit in hell for a while.

And lastly if Neo-Reform Buddhism is true, I'd be sad I didn't get to be a level five laser lotus in time, and my soul vapor would float around uncontained and I'd never be able to be recondensed into a new body ready for partying in the future... Shame.

Probably utter or think a few words inappropriate to this forum. And look back and wonder why whichever god/gods was the "right" one didn't make his or her evidence more clear. Then grit my teeth and prepare for whatever that judgment is to come.

And out of curiosity, what would you do if you found yourself in an afterlife unlike the one you thought it would be? That what you believed turned out to be wrong and you were being judged by a god or goddess or force from a religion you believed was wrong?

Most likely continue to blame everyone else and continue to make up excuses. The claim that atheists like to take responsibility for their own lives sounds good but has no practical application. We are told the burden of proof is on theists. We are told the atheists who committed atrocities in the Soviet Union and China were communists. (Somehow this seems to excuse the fact that their atheist morality did nothing to stop it, and yet they hold theists responsible for crimes committed by the Nazis because we are told Hitler was born into a Catholic family. We are also told that atheists simply don't believe so they have no beliefs to defend. I am still waiting to see how they take responsibility other than uttering the phrase. They also feel free to ask science questions in R & S but when they are asked the same they direct theists to the science section. Why I am getting the feeling that becoming an atheist is akin to taking a vacation? And if they are wrong they say it is because God made me this way. So when do we get a demonstration of the taking responsibility they are always bragging about?

There wouldn't be a heck of a lot I COULD do about it. I'm not concerned by it in the least. I can't go joining every single religion ever believed in on Earth "just in case" they are right and I am wrong. And I am NOT going to join one or believe in something that has NO evidence for the truth of it's claims.

If "God" exists, and he wants so badly for me to believe in him, then he can stop the ridiculous "you just need to have FAITH" nonsense and let us know without question that he exists. There is absolutely NO excuse whatsoever that a "God" would need to hide from us, make us choose from thousands of conflicting scenarios (beliefs/religions) regarding his existence, and then hinge whether or not we get sent to be tortured for all eternity on whether or not we choose the right one.

What I’d like to know is how other believers discern that THEIR personal relationship with "God" is genuine, but that a person suffering from insane delusions...(or simply believers of OTHER faiths) are just hearing voices that aren’t there.

If there ISN'T a discernable difference that can be pointed out and explained, what kind of compassionate God makes belief in his existence *indistinguishable* from delusion? And what kind of malicious, sadistic God hangs eternal torment upon being able to MAKE the distinction?

I like how people point to Pascal, like the fact that someone else asked the question presents an answer. They completely avoid the question. Again with the different deities, you guy's are so tedious in your archaic arguments, if their are multiple deities is that a reason not to take a chance. 1000 boxes are on a table and one has a million dollars in it. are you not gonna play because you might pick the wrong one? idiots. Use some common sense and be a free thinker, it's not to late to change, STOP CONFORMING. it gives me a headache.

I apologize to Crissie Lillie, who is one of those exceptions to the stereotypical "moron atheists" She gives me hope in humanity.

I would adjust my beliefs accordingly.

For some reason, the whole 'adjusting one's beliefs to fit new evidence' thing, especially with regard to the existence of deities, seems to be kind of an alien concept to most theists.
