Is it normal to have stomach cramps a week before your first period?

I just had my first period today and last week and a bit this week I had stomach cramps, is this normal? BTW I'm 13.

Update:

Thank you Angela for telling me not to eat salty food because I love salty food and I had pistachios the other day and my that's when my cramp got the worst.

I would say it is normal. However, be sure you are not eating too much salty foods during the week leading up to your period and during your period. Also, eat a banana for breakfast every morning. This should ease stomach cramps.
