In the UK, you need public liability for anything - you can't show or hack without it. If your horse is an escape artist, you can't really turn out without it.

We're with NFU Mutual who are fantastic as our pony is almost 19 and they haven't turned around and said that we can't insure him like so many companies would because of his age.

We haven't overly used our insurance for vet bills or anything and our tack is insured.

Don't ever underestimate insurance - it's a very good thing to have!!!

This question made me curious, so I Googled "equine insurance in Minnesota" and got a few different agencies.

A lot of them quoted around the $45-$48 range per horse for the minimum liability coverage ($100,000-$200,000). It's something that I've been thinking about, too.

I personally don't pay anything. Insurance for my horses is included in my board.

EDIT: Oh. I forgot to say what I get with it! If my horse were to die, I would get $5,000 PLUS any earnings that I can prove I got on that horse will be added onto it. And if there is a large injury (Colic, pulling tendon, etc.), then I would get so much a week until the horse heals. It's a pretty good deal, considering it's included in my board!
