My acne medicine is drying up my skin?

Its working very well so far, but it's drying up my skin and you can actually see small flakes, especially when I put powder on :(

What I do is: morning; wash my face with cetaphil bar, put on aczone, and then night; same thing but I put on differin too.

I don't want to stop using the products because when I do my acne comes back worse instantly, and I don't have a dermatologist appointment in a while. So how can I get rid of the flakes? I'm scared to sit down and scrub them off because I don't want to irritate my skin :/

Yes, dryness is possible side-effects for both Aczone and Differin. The bar cleanser is drying, too. You need to use a gentle cleanser.

I would not recommend scrubbing, either. I have two options for you. But if all fails, then you should revisit your doctor and discuss this problem.

    1st option:

-Use a liquid cleanser that is non-drying such as Boots Expert Anti-Blemish Cleansing Foam OR Clean & Clear Foaming Face Wash, Sensitive OR Olay Foaming Face Wash, Sensitive.

    2nd option:

-Use an alpha OR beta hydroxy acid exfoliate to gently and effectively remove the flakes. An example of an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) is glycolic acid. An example of a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) is salicylic acid.

Recommendations for AHA is Alpha Hydrox AHA Enhanced Lotion OR Alpha Hydrox Oil-Free Formula OR Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir.

Recommendations for BHA is Paula's Choice Exfoliating 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Gel OR Lotion OR Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment.

Use the exfoliant in the morning with Aczone.

CAUTION: Do a test patch first to see if if you have any adverse reaction to the acid.

    3rd option:

-Reduce the application frequency of your prescriptions to every other night or third night for one month, for example. I am assuming that one month is enough to let your skin build tolerance. Then, you can slowly increase application frequency.

    4th option:

-Rearrange your routine. Use Aczone one day in the morning and Differin the next day at night.

Make sure you wear broad-spectrum sunscreen in the morning. UV can make your skin dry and flakes.

Get a very gentle exfoliant try a honey and sugar scrub (my favorite!) moisturizing without oilyness and unfortunately lay off the make up for a lil while it will only make it look worse maybe just use a spot concealer if you really want it
