My dog has the worst gas!!!?
I feed my dog Blue Buffalo dog food and he has the worst gas ever!! I have read a bunch of other posts saying that Pedigree and Purina are bad because they have a lot of fillers, but my research on Blue Buffalo tells me its in the top 5 brands of dog food.
Is there anything I can do to stop/eliminate the gas? He does gulp his food, so I bought him a big Kong that you can put the food in and as he hits it, the food comes out in small doses... still he has a lot of gas.
What can I do?

Does your dog chew rawhide? That stuff causes gas. Treats and human food can also cause gas. Eliminate any human food and keep the amounts of treats you give low.
You can try giving your dog charcoal dog biscuits, they have been known to help with gas.
For severe cases, you can give your dog a teaspoon (less for small dogs) of plain, unsweetened yogurt with every meal.
Dogs are typically lactose intolerant, but small amounts of yogurt can actually help with digestion.

After 3 years of switching dog food-each one more expensive than the last- and several expensive vet visits to check for illness or intestinal blockage, etc. My dog still had gas that could make a skunk cry. One day I noticed that my small dog had a much different eating style that my big gassy Lab. The little guy ate one or two kibbles at a time, and chewed each one before going back for more. Little guy hardly ever has gas. Big boy just dives head first into the bowl of food. Chews a whole mouthful a few times and doesn't stop until the food is gone. In desperation I called a pet food store and asked what on earth? The man I spoke to asked if I had my dog examined by a vet-yes a-ok there. Then he asked if my dog is a food gulper, and described his eating style. Yep, that's him! This is what he told me to do. Put a brick-or half a brick- into his food bowl. Put his dry food around the brick, but not covering it. This makes the dog slow down, and use his tongue to lift out one or two kibbles at a time instead of mouthfuls. Add a little water if the dog is hungry now, and plans to eat his food right away. Soggy kibble is nasty. The added water helps the dog digest the dry food. It's been 2 weeks now, and the gas problem is almost completely gone! Needless to say, the brick and bowl need to been washed daily as pieces of moist kibble go under the brick. Small price to pay for the relief this has brought to me and my dog. Try it, and good luck!

Bad gas can be caused by a particular protein, so even if you are feeding an excellent quality dog food, if it contains a particular protein, it can still cause gas. It can be caused by a food sensitivity or allergy. Some dogs with allergies get itchy skin, some dogs get bad gas.
When feeding a dog with bad gas, you should try to reduce the number of proteins and ingredients, preferably a novel protein. In my experience, I have seen a number of dogs have gas on lamb, so if your current food contains lamb, you should switch to something with chicken. For example, Natural Choice Chicken and Oatmeal is formulated for sensitive stomachs. Chicken and oatmeal are very, very easily digested, which reduces development of gas.
Alternatively, if chicken is currently in the food, the next step would be to change to a limited ingredient diet. Specially formulated limited ingredient diets feature fewer ingredients and novel proteins that are designed for dogs with food sensitivities. I've attached links to limited ingredient diets. Limited ingredient formulas have less ingredients to aggravate food sensitivity, in your case, cause gas.
Hope that helps :)

A dog food without chicken or high oils is the best kind of diet for a gassy dog! Our cheese has gas when she eats chicken. Try a different food like Lams or Nature's recipe.
