Winter tires. No chains. I don't believe they're allowed.

Keep an emergency kit in the car: blanket, candles, first aid kit, water, oranges, chocolate, flashlight, extra batteries. Also, put a red towel or flag in the car in case you go off the road. Tie it to your antenna to signal if you need help.

You will need warm boots, thick socks, layers of clothing (eg: a long-sleeveed Tshirt under a sweater, insulated long underwear under your pants), a good coat, a warm hat, gloves AND mittens.

Here's the predicted weather for Dryden for the next week:

To the best of my knowledge none of the states you will be going through require/allow snow chains(only in the western states). It is winter, so you need your personal winter clothing for temperatures including below freezing. Travel with at least 3 days of food(no cooking needed), and a heavy blanket or sleeping bag. Pay close attention to the local weather stations(radio, TV at motels). Keep Gas tank no lower than 1/2 in case of delay on the road. Have good tread for good traction on the roads. Do you have winter driving experience? Send me a private if not.
