What will happen if I use my SIM in this phone...?
So I am with AT&T and my 2 years are up and it's time for an upgrade! The thing is, I'm not sure if I wanna have another 2 year contract. Can I just buy a phone from my friend and use my SIM in it. Or will it renew my 2 year contract because it is a different device? And the phone I have now is a Samsung Captivate and i'm getting a Motorola atrix 4G from a friend

contracts are ONLY renewed if you buy a new phone from the carrier or national retailer... buying a used phone from a friend/family//ebay/criaglist/etc and you SIM swap to it will NOT renew a contract since you did not buy/upgrade to a new $600+ phone for a discounted price of FREE-$299.99
just make sure the phone you SIM Swap to is branded with your carrier's logo... or--if not-- make sure its unlocked..
in your case, since your ATT and the Atrix is ATT... your good to go like Taco Bell... just SIM swap... no contract renewall... not unless you buy the Atrix form ATT or another national retailer like walmart or buest buy or amazon or wirefly or radioshack
