Should teenagers (opposite sex) share a bedroom?

Is it all right for teenage siblings, a boy and a girl, to share a room if space is an issue? They have always been fine with it until now, but my daughter is very uncomfortable and wants her own room desperately. My son doesn't seem to mind. Is it all right for me to keep this situation up, just through the rest of middle school and high school, or should they have their own rooms?

Update:

Oh, and also the room is very small, too small to hang a curtain or divide the room in half. But they have bunkbeds. So really, they each have their own bed and dresser...

They should really have their own room. They need their own private spaces.

I get it when space is an issue, but your daughter really really needs her own room. Of course your son doesn't mind, boys usually wouldn't. But your daughter absolutely needs her own bedroom and she's asking for it. You need to do whatever you can to accommodate her. It's not spoiling her, she needs this. She needs her space and privacy, especially during middle and high school. During high school it's absolutely a must that she needs her own space. They can't share a room during those awkward and important years.

EDIT: if there isn't a single room you can give her to herself, (though i highly recommend changing an office or study into a bedroom) if that's just not possible, then put up one of those screens down the middle. Divide the room in some way that there isn't an invasion of privacy. But again I highly recommend finding another room.

I think that if there's no other way, then that's how it has to be. I think it's fine to share rooms if you have, I don't see the problem. I know how bad a teenage girl can want her own room. There's no place I can think and go over my own thoughts without getting disturbed and feel secure. So it's very hard to deal with tyrant emotions and I let them out on everybody because I can't deal with them in my own privacy. I have no place of my own. And for the son, he'll probably want his own space to explore his manhood. I wouldn't do it if I had any other choice but I know that some times we have to make do. Use to sleep in one room with all of my 6 siblings, but I was young then. We grew close together if you ask me. But all in all, it is fustrating not to have your own place that you personally can go to relax and reflect. If I had this pleasure, I probably would be a lot better off.

they should really have a room of their own by now so they can have their own private space if they need to get away from the world for a little while

If it's possible to give them their own rooms, I'd do it.

If not, how about a partition down the middle of the room they share to give them a bit of privacy?

Only if absolutely necessary. But if you have another room then they should have their own rooms.

In this senario they should have their own rooms.
