It is about false idols. Carving an idol out of a tree trunk, gold plating it...then you have to pick it up and carry the god around with you.
Verse 5 from the NKJV
They are upright, like a palm tree, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot go by themselves. Do not be afraid of them, For they cannot do evil, Nor can they do any good."
Jer 10:8 But they are altogether dull-hearted and foolish; A wooden idol is a worthless doctrine.
Jer 10:10 But the LORD is the true God...
Jer 10:11 Thus you shall say to them: "The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens."

Jeremiah 10:11: This is the text of a letter Jeremiah sent to the Jewish exiles in Babylonia, telling them what to answer the captors who would try to persuade the to worship their heathen gods (Targum). The first verse of the letter is written in Aramaic, the language of Babylonia, to indicate that the response must be understood clearly by the oppressors (Radak).
10:22: i.e., news of the impending Babylonian invasion from the North, which will devastate the land.
10:23-24: Jeremiah acknowledges that Nebuchadnezzar's siege and destruction of Jerusalem must have been Divinely ordained (Rashi), and that man cannot control his fate, but he pleads that judgment be tempered with mercy and that Israel be spared.

My Bible has chapter summaries at the beginning of each chapter. The one for Jeremiah 10 says, "Learn not the way of the heathen - Their gods are idols and molten images - The Lord is the true and living God."

This chapter is about Israel`s worship of false gods from the nations around them. God considered His covenant with Israel to be like that of husband (God) and wife (Israel) but Israel kept returning to their old ways of idol worship. God considered this to be adultery. In this chapter He tells the prophet that His anger is turned toward them and they would be punished. Jeremiah is told to warn Israel of their broken covenant with God and its consequences.
