what is the compression ratio for converting vhs to dvd?
I want to convert my vhs format to dvd. My question is this, as an example. If the source (vhs) is 140 minutes long, will I have to get a larger capacity dvd than a standard 120 minute? Should I buy double layer dvds for anything that is originally longer than 120? I am using a vhs/dvd combo that will record from the vhs. Thanks.
I have a dvd/vhs unit that accepts dual layer for recording and for play back. I need to know the basic formula for the compression rate as it applies to vhs to dvd. As stated above, what I need to know is if the source (vhs) is, for example, 140 minutes, will it fit on a standard dvd, which is approx. time of 120 as I understand it. I would rather use standard dvd, as they are much cheaper to buy than dual layer, and I have hundreds of vhs to convert.

I'm not sure that VHS/DVD Combo accepts Dual Layer DVDs
Most of the combo units don't allow for VHS copying do antest run and see how it works. If it works then see if it takes Dual Layers then go for it......
Hope that helps you out
