Why does my TV keep flashing to a black screen when I have it hooked up to my laptop through HDMI?

Why does my TV keep flashing to a black screen when I have it hooked up to my laptop through HDMI?

I just bought a HDMI chord so I can hook up my laptop up to my TV, so I could use it as a monitor. But I am having problems getting it set, I would have the settings up and when it starts to work my tv just flashing to a black screen then moments later it will come back to normal! Why is it like this? it took me awhile to actually get it to work and now its doing this:/ Ive been using Windows Mobility Center to set up so my TV is my monitor.

This is what I do:

1. Open up "Windows Mobility Center"

2. Click "connect display" in the Display Command.

3. Then a box pops up giving me 3 options on how to display it.

Even if I select one of them, it sometimes wont work!:/

PLEASE HELP:/

    DARN!!!

I forget the process of how I got there, but if you look it up im sure you will find it like I did.

There should be a mirror setting somewhere, and you just click it and boom, your screen will appear.

Ill look quick and see if I can find something

here you go see if this helps you out :)
