Green tea helps. Fish oil and vitamin D are some vitamins that will help as well.

The best way to get rid of depression is called Jesus Christ! He loves you, whether you believe in Him or not! He loves you more than you'll ever know! He's the best cure for depression, and source of joy! Fellow believers of Christ, post this on all questions that need it!

Well there is something called Saint John's wort that might work or might not. Its effects on depression/bipolar is unclear but it defiantly doesn't make it worse. I haven't used it myself but that would be your best bet.
If he is depressed, prescription anti-depressants are the way to go. But if you guys are 100% against it then I would go with Saint John's wort. I'll give you a link to the Wikipedia page if you want to research it more.

I've heard Cat's Claw is good, and St. John's Wart. Also, regular exercise helps, even just a brisk 30 minute walk. He should stay away from alcohol, pot etc. if he does any of that. If he's on meds already, maybe they need tweaking, good luck.
