how to remove dried up blood?

if you fall and hit your head and it starts bleeding really badly, how do you clean the dried up blood from around your hair?? Will showering be a good idea?? Even if it hurts really bad to touch it? Would cold water help?

Update:

Is hydrogen peroxide painful on cuts like that?? Just curious.

Update 2:

Ok so that's a no for the hydrogen peroxide.. Seems like water would work...? warm or cold?? or what??
